Buying GPU in 2019

Ok, so after the troublesome 2018 caused by crypto miners on gamers you might be thinking when and what GPU to buy in 2019. In this guide today I’m going to tell you when will be the best time for buying a GPU in 2019 and what to buy. Though I may not be able to tell you what to buy right now because AMD’s NAVI GPUs and NVIDIA’s 11 series GPUs are right on the horizon and we don’t know even any core specs or details about those GPUs. So its hard to say anything about them but as of now I’ll be telling what to buy on the basis of existing cards.

WHEN TO BUY GPU in 2019

Without making you wait I want to declare that the best time to buy GPUs in 2019 will be the third quarter of the year or somewhat in the middle of the year because of the launch of new GPUs both from AMD and NVIDIA it’ll be the best time though you may need to pay some premium as electronics parts tends to get down on price as time flies. But we all know Cryptominers are always looking for GPUs and if the cryptomining craze starts again at 2019 then again GPU prizes will hike and GPU scarcity will happen and its not good for gamers. If you buy early then you will be able to gram your GPU for games.

WHAT GPU TO BUY

Now coming to what GPU to choose for your gaming.

Starting with the best GPU you can grab right now is for every resolution and even 4k at 60+ FPS, you have to go with RTX 2080TI, its a monster and the best GPU. Though this monstrous GPU will cost you a monstrous premium price as high as 1299$. Yeah it’ll take your hard earned 1299$ but its totally worth it if you want the best gaming experience. There are other options too like which are not costly as RTX 2080TI but will not give you performance like it. The best GPU below RTX 2080TI is RTX 2080, its also a great card and it’ll set you 699$, though cheaper than its big bother but also has lower performance than it.

I’m not mentioning anything about the previous generation 10 series GPUs from NVIDIA as NVIDIA stopped manufacturing them and they are getting out of stock.

But the best 4k gpu from previous generation for 4K gaming was GTX 1080TI

Coming to AMD side of things and the GPU best for 4K gaming is Radeon VII. It has 16 HBM2 memory and has 7nm design for better power efficiency. It will cost you around 699$ which is pretty good and its also on par with RTX 2080 though it does not have fancy Ray Tracing or DLSS that NVIDIA offers on its whole RTX lineup.

You can also buy cheaper AMD 4K card which is AMD’s last gen GPU know as VEGA 64. It was on par with NVIDIA’s last gen GTX 1080

Now coming to 2K resolution or 2560 by 1440p or you can simply say 1440p resolution. The best Nvidia card to offer best 1440p experience will be RTX 2070ti, yes obviously RTX 2080 ti can give you more performance than RTX 2070ti even at 1440p and many people can also buy RTX 2080ti for 1080p gaming also but here I’m assuming that you are on budget for each resolution and I’m providing budget to performance ratio. Coming again the best GPU for 1440p and then next card below RTX 2070ti will be RTX 2070. From previous generation the GTX 1070 ti is your best bet for 1440p gaming. But a new Nvidia card has emerged recently which can give RTX 2070 a run for its money and that is RTX 2060, though Nvidia launched it for budget gamers who want to play games at 1080p high ultra but this RTX 2060 is 90% of what you can get at RTX 2070. So if you buy RTX 2070 then you’re giving 30% more price for 10% increase in performance from RTX 2060.

From AMD side of things the best card for 1440p gaming will be RX VEGA 56, this card was launched to directly compete with GTX 1070, a lower card for 1440p gaming will be RX 590, though it is not as powerful as RX VEGA 56 but it can play games at 1440p at a good range of FPS if you play at medium setting at 1440p

Next resolution is 1920by1080p or simply 1080p resolution and its the most popular resolution right now among the gamers. Playing games at 1080p will not cost you a huge chunk of your money and you can build a gaming computer under 1299$ which you will have to pay only to buy a 4K GPU(RTX 2080TI) for 4K gaming.

Now coming to the best cards for gaming at 1080p and there are many options and sometimes I myself get confused. The best card for 1080p gaming from NVIDIA is RTX 2060. Its the best card overall and can also give Fancy features like Real time Ray-Tracing and DLSS at 1080p resolution. Nvidia said with DXR ON or Ray-tracing ON at medium will give you 60 FPS at 1080p. Next best card for 1080p gaming is GTX 1060 and though its going to stock out soon and will not be available anymore but it was a best card for 1080p gaming from NVIDIA’s side from previous Gen.

From AMD side of things the best card for 1080p gaming will be RX 590. AMD specially launched this card for 1080p gaming and its a more polished version of its previous generation Polaris architecture. You’re also getting 3 free games with RX 590 from AMD, THE DIVISION 2, RESIDENT EVIL 2, DEVIL MAY CRY 5, thogh this are unreleased titles but you’ll get them free. The second best card will be RX 580 which is now a year old but it will do the job.

The cheapest card for 1080p gaming is GTX 1050ti. You’re not going to find any good 1080p playing GPU lower than this. Its from NVIDIA and it’ll cost you 150 to 200$

That sums up our GPU choice review and as new GPUs launches will happen I’ll update this article but for now these are your best options for respective resolution and if you want to know how to install GPUs in your PC or how to build your own PC then check my full guide of HOW TO BUILD A PC.
